There are two types of machine available - one that makes smoke
that disperses quickly (PS21), and one that makes long-lasting smoke (PS23).
The smoke generators are also available with two control options.
The Basic option allows you to operate the unit off-mains power - you
can produce a considerable amount of smoke 'off power' using the retained
energy within the high mass heat exchanger, allowing you to carry the
generator around, making smoke as required, without a trailing electrical
lead. After being on mains for around 15 minutes, the smoke machine will
generate large amounts of smoke for around 2.5 minutes whilst off power.
There is also the Remote control option unit which comes with a remote
control (but cannot be used off-power). These are two separate machines
- you cannot attach a remote to the basic control machine retrospectively.
Connected to the mains, all these units can operate
continuously at full output.
In service with numerous fire authorities world-wide, many
NATO forces (including the USN for shipboard training), as well as analytical
laboratories, pharmaceutical clean rooms and HVAC contractors, these smoke
machines have a reputation for simplicity of operation and reliability.
These units are ideal for when you require extremely dense
concentrations of smoke, or extremely large volumes need to be filled
with smoke. This is because smoke produced is very persistent. The high
power version generates even more smoke than the normal models and is
one of the most powerful hand held smoke generators available today.

PS27 Dragon High Output (2.2kW) Smoke Generator
This
high quality smoke generator is well suited to applications where
continuous, high smoke output is required, since it utilises
a modular peristaltic pump system rather than conventional, low cost piston
pumps.
Using an MOV protected solid state relay for heater switching at zero
volts, and a plug in electronic module, key components are not compromised
in the other key areas within the system.

The pump draws smoke Fluid A (persistent)
or smoke Fluid B (quickly dispersing) from its integral 2 litre reservoir
(or an external reservoir also available), forcing it into the unique
precision machined heat exchanger, where it is vaporised. On exiting the
heat exchanger, the vapour condenses to form dense, white, non toxic smoke
, with an incredibly consistent and small particle size of 0.2 - 0.3 micron.
The smaller the particle size of the smoke, the lower its settling velocity
(the rate at which a particle will fall, due to gravity). A smoke particle
of 0.2 micron in diameter will fall at 8mm/hr, compared to a 2 micron
particle, which falls at 468mm/hr. In essence this means that the smaller
the particle of smoke you produce, the less chance there is that deposition
of smoke particles will occur.

test, against 4 other leading brands.
The article describes its performance overall, across
the testing criteria, it scored heavily and consistently. Its beautifully

Oil Based Smoke Generators
Probably
the most effective smoke system available today

Air flow testing
The smoke produced by our oil-based smoke
generators can persist to 200°C before layering commences, making
the unit ideal for hot fire training applications.
However, even if training or smoke logging
in unheated conditions, the smoke produced will out-perform all conventional
water based alternatives, whilst dramatically reducing the consumption
of smoke chemical. Typically, users of water based glycol smoke systems
can experience reductions of 80 - 90% in smoke chemical consumption, for
similar if not better smoke densities.
With no routine maintenance required and a
choice of heat exchanger capacities to suit fire training needs, it's
no wonder fire training centres throughout the world have selected it
as their primary smoke system.
Particle size is a consistent 0.2 - 0.3 microns in diameter,
making the unit ideally suited to testing HEPA filtration.

The oil based smoke machines are also ideally suited to leak
and air flow testing for large applications. Their incredibly
efficient fluid use (up to one tenth that of water based
machines) and zero maintenance makes it ideal for fixed
installations in theme parks and attractions. Oil-based smoke is very
persistent compared to water-based types and therefore doesn't evaporate
or layer even when filling large areas. And as it uses less fluid, the
smoke produced is even safer.
